Our Story

Sabie River Camp did not begin as a commercial campsite. The property was originally purchased as a private gathering place where family members could reunite, spend time outdoors and enjoy the natural beauty of the Sabie River.

It soon became clear that the setting was too special to keep to themselves. As more friends and visitors discovered the property, its popularity grew and the grounds were opened for camping. Glamping tents were later introduced, allowing guests to enjoy the atmosphere of camping with beds, shelter and additional conveniences already provided.

Today, Sabie River Camp offers a relaxed combination of camping, caravanning and glamping while retaining the friendly, personal atmosphere on which it was founded.

The camp is run by partners Raymond and Jaco, both of whom are passionate animal lovers and motorcycle enthusiasts. Those interests have helped shape Sabie River Camp into a destination where pets may join their families by prior arrangement and where bikers are genuinely welcomed rather than merely accommodated.

Set on the outskirts of Sabie, the property is surrounded by trees, lawns and mountain scenery, with the Sabie River running through the grounds. Guests can enjoy the sound of flowing water, fresh mountain air and easy access to the town and its surrounding attractions.

At its heart, Sabie River Camp remains what it was created to be: a place for people to come together, relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Discover Sabie

Sabie is a small mountain town situated along the Drakensberg Escarpment in Mpumalanga. Known for its forests, waterfalls and dramatic scenery, the area offers an abundance of outdoor activities and scenic day trips.

Guests can explore nearby waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain-biking routes and viewpoints, or travel farther along the Panorama Route to attractions such as God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels and the Blyde River Canyon.

Sabie River Camp is less than four hours' drive from Gauteng and OR Tambo International Airport and approximately one hour from the Kruger National Park, making it a convenient base from which to explore the wider Lowveld region.

Life beside the Sabie River

The Sabie River runs through the property and forms an important part of the camp's character. Its flowing water, riverbank vegetation and surrounding trees create a peaceful natural setting where guests can sit outside, enjoy the changing light and listen to the sounds of the river. A wooden deck overlooking the river provides an inviting place to pause and take in the surroundings.
